Lucky Number Slevin: Paul McGuigan
[Revisit Review]
Yes, Paul McGuigan's Lucky Number Slevin is hopelessly derivative of Pulp Fiction. Yes, it's much too in love with its own cleverness and convolution. There's too much surface love of style for style's sake. But dammit, the film is just fun. Josh Hartnett and Lucy Liu have phenomenal chemistry--I particularly love how the latter gradually fell in love with her role as the former's apprentice. I also think the film has decent emotional and dramatic heft, particularly in the third act when the puzzle pieces start coming together.
