Cannibal Apocalypse: Antonio Margheriti
Every square is a rectangle. But not every rectangle is a square. Likewise, every zombie is a cannibal. But every cannibal isn’t a zombie. The monsters in Antonio Margheriti's Cannibal Apocalypse are referred to as cannibals, but they're really zombies. They eat human flesh and whomever they bite turns into one of them. I suspect they were only called cannibals because the studio wanted to cash in on the cannibal craze. Anyhow, Cannibal Apocalypse is short on coherency but long on style. One of the more interesting aspects is the groovy soundtrack which provides odd, disquieting counterpoints to the gruesome goings-on of the plot. Some of the acting is rather solid. There's a wonderful scene early on where the protagonist tries to negotiate with an old veteran buddy who has become unhinged and barricaded himself in a mall. But for the most part Cannibal Apocalypse is forgettable.
