[Revisit Review]
There's a delicious oneiric quality to Edgar G. Ulmer's The Black Cat (1934): the harsh modernistic interiors of Boris Karloff's castle fort brimming with geometric shapes, planes, and angles; the constant tension between Karloff and Bela Lugosi as two enemies hellbent on killing each other while doing nothing to impede each other from freely wandering the fort; the obsession with dead or confused women. Even better, it gives us one of Lugosi's best and most dignified performances.
8/10
