This is one of those rare films that is so silly, so stupid, so inane that it turns back around and becomes AWESOME. It's another zombie apocalypse movie that takes place on an isolated island. The theft of a biological sample from a top secret military compound unleashes a zombie virus onto the surrounding populace. Then, the film tracks a series of increasingly unlucky survivors as they try to escape the hoards of flesh-eaters and the military troops ordered to kill anything moving on sight. This film was started by Lucio Fulci but finished by Bruno Mattei after he left production due to illness. Mattei, otherwise known as the Italian Ed Wood, shot filler so as to stretch out Fulci's footage to feature length. The result is an incredibly disjointed, yet undeniably entertaining cavalcade of gore, dismemberments, and carnage. Unlike many Italian exploitation films, it never really starts to drag as Fulci and Mattei keep it moving at a steady pace with plenty of zombies and kills. It's a ridiculous, ludicrous affair...but at least it's entertaining.
