Pygmalion: Anthony Asquith, Leslie Howard

[Revisit Review]

I much prefer Anthony Asquith and Leslie Howard's Pygmalion over George Cukor's My Fair Lady (1964). It's leaner and meaner--at times it's downright nasty. It's so nasty that the ending reconciliation between Professor Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle feels a bit hollow, artificial, and forced. I was particularly impressed with the scene where Eliza confronts Higgins after her societal debut. It's a perfectly executed scene that truly exposes what a horrible piece of work Higgins is.

8/10
