The Return of the Living Dead: Dan O'Bannon

Imagine, if you will, a world where the film Night of the Living Dead was based on a true story. Only in this world, the zombie apocalypse was stopped and contained. Then imagine if these zombies and the chemicals that revived them were accidentally transported to the wrong address. And then, finally, imagine if a pair of knuckleheads unleashed the chemicals again, effectively restarting the zombie apocalypse. That is the world where The Return of the Living Dead occurs. In this wildly entertaining and over-the-top film, zombies are real, they hunger for brains (not just living flesh), and they are conscious and semi-intelligent. After a duo of workers unleash the chemicals that reanimate dead tissue, an army of the undead starts to take over Louisville, Kentucky. This film lovingly spoofs and expands upon the zombies that originated in George A. Romero's work. It is complete with over-the-top gore, zombie strippers, and a kicking punk rock soundtrack. It finally answers the question concerning why zombies hunger for human flesh (and brains): it temporarily relieves the pain of being dead. Apparently, being dead hurts. A lot. My recommendation? Watch this movie with a group of friends. It's well worth it.
