Peter Jackson's Meet the Feebles is shocking, offensive, disgusting, and in poor taste. And I loved every minute of it. A parody of Jim Henson's The Muppets, the Feebles are a troupe of anthropomorphized puppets who hold a weekly variety hour. Only instead of getting into innocent albeit wacky hijinks backstage, the Feebles dive into perversions and depravity. Their lovable host Harry the Rabbit gets an STD after a threesome with two bunnies. Trevor the Rat shoots S&M porn films in the basement and sells drugs to the cast. Wynyard the Frog is a Vietnam War veteran suffering from PTSD who is helplessly addicted to "every barbiturate known to man." It doesn't help that Wynyard is also the Feebles' knife thrower. Bletch the Walrus, the show's producer, is involved in organized crime while pretending to be in a relationship with Heidi the Hippo, their big star. Heidi is hopelessly overweight and has violent bipolar reactions during stressful or traumatic situations. That's only a portion of the film's cast and plot. I haven't even told you about the shy hedgehog with rhotacism, the gay fox stage director who performs a big number about sodomy, and the elephant animal trainer with horrible luck and a half-chicken, half-elephant bastard child. This film is straight up undiluted madness...and I can't wait to watch it again.
8/10
