Assassination Classroom: Graduation: Eiichirō Hasumi

Well...this was absolutely boring. Remember all the fun, zany humor and comic-book/manga insanity of the first Assassination Classroom movie? The stuff that made us look past the preposterous plot, non-existent world-building, and plain mediocrity to actually enjoy the film? None of it's here. Eiichirō Hasumi's Assassination Classroom: Graduation is like a two-hour compilation of all the boring parts from the first movie: 20-30 minute flashbacks, predictable character developments, and an ending which really betrays the transgressive roots of the series' premise--the brutality of Japan's educational system juxtaposed with the brutality of learning how to become assassins. There was room for real satire here. But the film plays it safe with an overwrought, feel-good conclusion that's only somewhat tempered by the fact that Koro-sensei actually dies in the end.

4/10
