[Revisit Review]
Vincente Minnelli's An American in Paris is one of my favorite feel-good movies. Just watching it is enough to put me in a rapturous mood. The sets, the costumes, the songs, the dancing! Half the fun of watching the film is simply marveling at how easy Gene Kelly et al. makes it seem. Even watching him wake up and get his apartment in order at the beginning of the film (in reality, the film's first dance number) is stunning in its casual fluency. I was surprised to find how much the film's central love-rectangle plot annoyed me this time around. It strains the pace of the film a bit. But it hardly seems to matter. 'S wonderful!
