Land of the Lost: Brad Silberling

Brad Silberling's Land of the Lost is one of those mercilessly annoying comedies where the actors just don't know when to shut up. The film maybe only has about 50 minutes of plot: two scientists and a tour guide discover a method of warping through time and space to a strange dimension inhabited by dinosaurs and world-conquering lizard men. The rest of its run-time is devoted to half-hearted mugging. This isn't a film about characters; it's a revue for the comedic personae of Will Ferrel (the overacting, wide-eyed man-child) and Danny McBride (the repugnant and crude wanna-be Lothario). The only actor who comes through this film with the slightest modicum of dignity is Anna Friel. And even she has to suffer the twin indignities of being repeatedly molested and having to act like she actually finds Ferrel attractive as both a scientist and a lover. The film's effects are terrible, the comedy is even worse, and it besmirches the memory of a classic television franchise.

3/10
