Stone Cold: Craig R. Baxley

You know, I kinda get what Brian Bosworth was going for with his performance in Craig R. Baxley's Stone Cold. He was trying to go for the whole "too cool to care" routine, almost like an action movie Chevy Chase. But instead of coming off like a badass, he comes off as barely awake for most of the film. Stone Cold is a rather paint-by-numbers action movie about a wild card cop who is "enlisted" by the FBI to infiltrate a sinister biker gang involved in the drug trade and the murder of a government official. If you've seen one film like this, you've seen them all: hero tries to get into gang, regular members reject him, the leader takes an unusually enthusiastic interest in him, the hero is betrayed, and it all ends with a massive gunfight. I'll say this about Stone Cold: the action sequences are fantastic. This is one of those action movies where vehicles barely have to be grazed by bullets for them to erupt into cataclysmic fireballs. And to be fair, Lance Henriksen is a lot of fun as the villain, even if his characterization as a psychopathic biker leader is a bit generic. As a side note, I was pleasantly surprised by the film's payoff concerning Bosworth's useless, germophobic partner. Well done, movie, well done.

5/10
