There's no other way to say this: Ralph Brooke's Bloodlust! is a shameless, shameless, shameless rip-off of Irving Pichel and Ernest B. Schoedsack's The Most Dangerous Game (1932). Both are about people who come across a mysterious island in the middle of the ocean and become human prey for a psychotic big-game hunter. Bloodlust! even ripped off The Most Dangerous Game's character design for the evil hunter: an older gentleman with a tight mustache and goatee combo. The Most Dangerous Game featured the actors and production staff that would go on to create King Kong (1933). Bloodlust! was created by and featured nobody of any particular importance. Not to mention that Bloodlust! isn't nearly as good. The only creative thing that the film does is feature a macabre museum of the big-game hunter's previous victims. It is genuinely unsettling to see his previous kills preserved forever. And the film does attempt to use the gallery in a creative way in the climax. But ultimately Bloodlust! falls short. The four leads are unappealing, idiotic, and infuriating to the point that you want the big-game hunter to kill them. Bloodlust! is such a mindless rip-off that it makes me physically angry. I need to stop writing now before I break my keyboard.

It's been awhile since I've seen this MST3K and I don't remember much other about Bloodlust other than that it sucked. One riff stood out for me, when they pointed out that one of the stuffed kills looks like ALF!
ReplyDeleteHa! That was a good one...You should try and find a copy of the original. It's fantastic!
